Working as a REO Agent, I’ve seen lots of different houses in various stages of disrepair. Houses that have been intentionally vandalized - basically destroying the home's interior. Ones where theft has occurred, either from the previous owner/occupant, or, after being abandoned. I think the worst ones are those that have been grossly abused and/or willfully neglected by the previous owner/occupants. Yeah -- Those are bad! Bad for the neighborhood. Bad for the community. Bad all the way around.
There are houses like this one –
Ones where, on the day the Sheriff executes the Writ Of Possession, we find the front door unlocked, the keys laying just inside the door on the stairway landing, along with a short note saying Hello... and, Goodbye.
Ones with the electric and heat still on (in the middle of winter). Ones that have clearly been loved and taken care of over the years and that are changing hands only because of a misfortune of one sort or another. They show the typical signs of being lived in - dings and dents of a family growing up together and sometimes repair items deferred until they've become an issue and/or a high priced update (ie: roof and HVAC) that overwhelms.
This blog series is about one of those houses. You read about them all the time on the local MLS. We Realtors like to say they just need a "little TLC". In reality - this one needs a pretty substantial investment to compete with other similar Alexandria properties for sale
This blog series is also about reaching out to local Northern KY home buyers - and sellers too for that matter - with tips and area experts' advice on everything from getting yourself ready to purchase a home and the various types of renovation loans you might qualify for (and any "special" loans or grants that might be available) to articles on home improvements that add value.
So. Whether you're interested in exploring ownership opportunities; want to find out about fix and flip investments; or, are just mildly curious about the benefits of homeownership, you'll likely find nuggets of value within this series.
Here's highlights of what we encountered on Day 1 and shortly thereafter...
